Pizza Gourmet
When approached to develop the branding for Tricolore, a pizzeria that sought to merge divine inspiration with authentic Italian craftsmanship, the client presented a vision deeply rooted in a masterpiece of Renaissance art—Michelangelo’s „The Creation of Adam.” This iconic image, particularly the near-touch of the fingers between God and Adam, was chosen to symbolize the connection between the divine and the everyday pleasure of enjoying a well-crafted pizza.
The name „Tricolore” itself is rich in symbolism: it represents the three co-owners of the pizzeria, mirrors the three colors of the Italian flag, and highlights the three types of flour used in their uniquely crafted dough—emphasizing their commitment to quality and authenticity. The dough, notable for its simplicity, is made from just three key ingredients, enhancing the theme of 'three’ that is central to the brand’s identity.
The client insisted on an oval shape for the logo, which complements the overarching theme of unity and continuity. The tagline, „Taste the heaven,” which I contributed, ties back to the heavenly quality of the pizza and the celestial theme invoked by the reference to Michelangelo’s artwork. This tagline not only underscores the sublime experience of the pizza but also aligns with the artistic and elevated nature of the brand’s identity.
After the initial design phase guided by the client’s detailed requests, the second attempt at Tricolore’s branding embraced simplicity and my artistic vision. This phase focused on a minimalist, contemporary design that reflected the brand’s Italian roots.
The revised logo featured three triangles, each symbolizing an angel and mirroring the trio of co-owners, while their shapes subtly suggested slices of pizza, reinforcing the pizzeria theme. The inclusion of an aureole, with a three-dimensional effect in the final design, added sophistication and depth, particularly effective in the 3D illuminated signage where the backlit halo accentuated its contours.
This approach combined modern aesthetics with Italian elegance, ensuring the Tricolore brand was memorable and resonated broadly by capturing the essence of high-quality, sublime pizza. Each design proposal, whether blending initial ideas or introducing new elements, maintained this balance of contemporary style with timeless charm.
